Glad to see you here. I followed you on IG for a few years but I rarely look at it now that it is unrecognisable from those days when we could post a photo and caption, and meet like-minded people. Hopefully this place will be better.
So pleased to read your blend of interests for this coming year.
You asked for ours:
I’m doing a no-buy year. No clothes at all. I’ve not bought new clothes for a few years now but I got addicted to finding 2nd hand wonders, and now I must stop that too. I need nothing more. So glad you’re committing to no new clothes - that documentary is so powerful!
I loved the poetry you shared. Mary Oliver’s is my favourite of all. Anyway…
I want to read more, scroll less.
Eat less processed food, grow and cook more food.
Clean more, sleep more, get outside and laugh more.
Write more, run more, and have more fun with my growing up kids.
Well it's nice to connect on here. I know what you mean about insta but I'm still kind of into it. Bravo on the no-buy year: this is a far better challenge, especially since the second-hand clothing additional is real. Reading more and scrolling less sounds like exactly what the doctor ordered (along with the rest of your resolutions). Good luck with all of it...;-) S x
Hey, what a lovely piece! I just started reading Rooted, a copy you signed for me at Groundswell this past summer. 😌
Substack is great. Glad you’ve found your way here!
Sounds like you’ve had one heck of a year. Feel free to lower the bar for yourself here and write shorter pieces, if that makes it easier to write more often.
Oh that is *such* lovely news! Re: shorter pieces - once I get going I find it hard not to put it all down. Then the orange bar pops up with 'you are about to exceed your word limit' and I think 'oh....?!'. Maybe one long and one short a week: I'm still finding my way. S x
What an amazing and heart felt first post. What a special forum and I’m really new to it too! Couldn’t help feeling the garden project represents something deeper in your life! Go do it and good luck 😁
Just a short reflection reading your beautiful first post has inspired. When food is such a central part of who we are, growing it feels authentic. Fundamentally though I grow because it is my sacred, spiritual, creative space, where, no matter how much I think I know cerebrally, mysteries and miracles still happen. Intuitively learning from nature by watching it's wonder unfold makes me happy, I think actually the happiest I can be. I can't wait to see the growing space you create - keep sharing this with us 🙏
Organic farming taught me as much about philosophy as it did botany. One day I’ll write a stocking filler of all the wisdom I got from farmers which were as much lessons for life as they were farming. And thank you so much for your kind words and enthusiasm (all tips very welcome…!) 🙏

Absolutely love this - thank you 🙏
Thank you so much - that means a lot 🙏
I have always loved your writing, in every form, and this is lovely. ❤️
You are the loveliest: thank you friend xxx

Me too: it does feel like this. Thank you x
Good luck with the gardening - a blank canvas like that is SO exciting ….
I said this flippantly then looked at your page. You’ve WRITTEN DOWN all your tips! Praise be! And thank goodness I found you 🙏
Honestly I know that feeling - but think of it maybe as a blank page in those really good pieces
where a few words really will take on a life of their own…
I’m still in the utterly-overwhelmed/daunted phase I’m afraid but will keep you posted. Even a blank page is less scary. All tips very welcome! 🙏
Thank you so much Sarah for starting your substack - it is, and will continue to be, brilliant! Wishing you a terrific 2025
That is so kind; thank you. I really appreciate it 🙏
